The ejection port cover is of the earlier style having the roll pin holding in the longer spring and detent. It also has the rubber coated swinging sling swivel. The buttstock is indeed, the early version that lacks any provisions for the internal storage compartment, that is correctly fitted with a solid rubber/plastic buttplate with no provisions for the later trap door. It is also fitted with it original slimmer black plastic pistol grip, early triangular handguards (early unmarked versions lacking the "R" and "L" on the inner aluminum shields.) Features the early style buttstock. It still retains its original first generation (and very rare) old style, large head, two-piece 'Edgewater' recoil buffer. It retains its original internal parts with the early style selector switch that has the small machined hole on each end of the switch.

The bolt is also the early Colt version that is marked "M" and "P".

It has the early commercial Colt bolt carrier that lacks the notching on the side later added for the forward assist. The barrel is fitted with the early three-prong flash hider with correct ' checkered ' lock washer. The right side of the barrel beneath the sight post rings is stamped with the proof "M" and triangle Colt stamping. It is fitted with the early original Colt marked parts such as the original non-chrome lined barrel with and "s" & "12" marking. This was the the third full year of Colt AR 15 production. The lower receiver has the Colt four line markings with the four digit serial number "SER SP 07386" indicating production at about Fall, 1966.

It has the early style upper receiver with no provisions for a forward assist and the correct early Colt "triangle" proof mark on the upper receiver. This is an outstanding 1966 production Colt AR-15 SP1 semi-automatic rifle. All my rifles are correct, and mint collector quality condition. Selling my Vietnam era Colt AR15SP1 collection.
